Ukraine is observing a day of mourning following a series of severe Russian missile strikes, marking one of the deadliest days in recent months. The attacks resulted in at least 41 fatalities and left 166 people injured.
Among the affected buildings was the main children’s hospital in Kyiv. The Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital, Ukraine’s largest pediatric facility, suffered significant damage, with two fatalities reported. Rescue operations continued through the night in search of survivors.
Russia has denied targeting the hospital, claiming it was hit by fragments from a Ukrainian air defense missile. Conversely, Ukraine reported finding remnants of a Russian cruise missile at the site.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack as “brutal” and labeled Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “bloody criminal.”
NATO is scheduled to hold a summit in Washington on Tuesday, with the alliance’s response to the invasion of Ukraine expected to be a primary focus.
