Pegadaian’s Corporate Secretary Champion 2026 recognition highlights the growing strategic role of governance, stakeholder communication and corporate reputation amid financial-sector transformation.

The role of corporate governance is becoming increasingly strategic as financial institutions navigate digital transformation, changing stakeholder expectations and more complex business ecosystems. Against this backdrop, PT Pegadaian’s recognition at the Corporate Secretary Champion 2026 provides an example of how governance and corporate communication are increasingly connected to long-term institutional credibility.

Pegadaian was named Winner of Indonesia Best Corporate Secretary for Governance Excellence 2026 at the Corporate Secretary Champion 2026 event organized by Majalah SWA in Jakarta on September 1, 2026. The company’s Corporate Secretary function, led by Dwi Hadi Atmaka, was recognized for its role in supporting governance and maintaining transparent, effective and constructive communication with stakeholders.

The recognition comes at a time when corporate governance is evolving beyond a compliance-oriented function. The OECD notes that effective governance contributes to market confidence, transparency, accountability, sustainable growth and financial stability. Its latest Corporate Governance Factbook also shows that governance frameworks across jurisdictions are adapting to changes in capital markets, digitalisation, sustainability and increasingly complex stakeholder relationships.

For Pegadaian, the Corporate Secretary function carries responsibilities that extend to corporate image and the timely, accurate delivery of material information to stakeholders. The company states that its Corporate Secretary also coordinates with other corporate organs, including the Board of Commissioners as well as internal and external auditors. Dwi Hadi Atmaka has held the position based on the company’s Board of Directors decision issued in 2024.

The professional background of Dwi also reflects the increasingly cross-functional nature of corporate leadership in financial services. According to Pegadaian’s official profile, he holds a master’s degree in management from Universitas Negeri Padang and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Universitas Andalas. His previous roles included regional leadership, business-area management, strategic performance and change management, auditing and risk management.

This broader experience is relevant as Pegadaian continues to expand its business beyond its traditional pawn-service roots. The company recorded net profit of Rp6.59 trillion in the first half of 2026, an 84.4% increase from Rp3.58 trillion in the same period of 2025. Total assets reached Rp186.33 trillion, while gross outstanding loans stood at Rp155.1 trillion.

At the same time, Pegadaian is developing a broader gold ecosystem and strengthening its digital capabilities. These developments increase the importance of clear communication between the company and its stakeholders, particularly as financial products, technology and market structures become more interconnected.

The global governance landscape also illustrates why communication and transparency have become increasingly important. The OECD’s 2025 Factbook reports that 90% of the jurisdictions covered require sustainability-related disclosure, while virtual-only shareholder meetings are permitted in 85% and hybrid meetings in 94%. Such developments demonstrate how corporate governance is adapting to a business environment in which information increasingly moves through digital channels and stakeholder participation is becoming more diverse.

In this environment, the Corporate Secretary function can serve as an important link between governance structures and external stakeholders. For financial institutions undergoing transformation, the function involves not only communicating corporate information but also supporting consistency, transparency and stakeholder understanding as business strategies evolve.

Dwi Hadi Atmaka said the recognition would encourage Pegadaian to continue improving governance and corporate communication. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining close and transparent relationships with stakeholders as part of strengthening the company’s reputation.

The Corporate Secretary Champion 2026 assessment itself covered several dimensions, including compliance, investor relations, government relations, media and public relations, corporate social responsibility and crisis-management handling. Pegadaian received a Very Good rating under the event’s assessment system.

Pegadaian’s recognition therefore comes amid a broader transformation of the financial-services industry, where governance, technology, reputation and stakeholder engagement increasingly intersect. For institutions expanding their products and ecosystems, maintaining reliable governance and transparent communication becomes part of managing growth as well as protecting institutional trust.
