Singapore — Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has raised concerns over the United States’ ability to keep pace with China in building AI infrastructure. Speaking at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Huang noted that constructing a data center in the U.S. typically takes three years, while in China, large‑scale projects can be completed in mere days. “They can build a hospital in a weekend,” he emphasized.
Huang highlighted two critical issues:
- Construction Speed: China’s ability to mobilize resources and complete projects at unprecedented pace.
- Energy Capacity: China’s energy infrastructure is reportedly twice the size of the U.S., giving it a significant advantage in powering AI expansion.
Despite these challenges, Huang stressed that the U.S. still leads in AI chip technology, with Nvidia several generations ahead of Chinese competitors. However, he warned against complacency, noting that China’s manufacturing capabilities should not be underestimated.
With global demand for AI described as “insatiable,” U.S. data center investment is projected to exceed USD 100 billion in the coming year. The question remains whether America can accelerate infrastructure development to match its technological edge.
For World Digest Media, Huang’s remarks underscore a global dilemma: innovation alone is not enough—execution speed and energy readiness are equally vital in determining leadership in the AI era.
