Formula One Announces Six Sprint Races for 2025

London – Formula One will feature six sprint race weekends in the 2025 season, with Belgium replacing Austria as the only change from the 2024 lineup.

The Red Bull Ring in Austria, which has hosted sprints for the past three years, will revert to the traditional grand prix format.

The sprint weekends for 2025 are scheduled for:

  • Shanghai on Mar 21-23
  • Miami on May 2-4
  • Austin on Oct 17-19
  • Sao Paulo on Nov 7-9
  • Qatar on Nov 28-30

The Belgian Grand Prix, which last held a sprint in 2023, is set for Jul 25-27.

Sao Paulo’s Interlagos, which has featured a sprint since the format’s introduction in 2021, will continue the tradition. This format includes a Saturday 100km race that awards points to the top eight finishers, followed by the regular Sunday race.

This year’s schedule adjusts the qualifying structure, placing the sprint qualifying on Friday, with the sprint race on Saturday morning, followed by the grand prix qualifying.

Three of the last six races of the 2025 season will include sprints.

Formula One CEO Stefano Domenicali praised the sprint format’s success, citing positive audience data, increased fan attendance on Fridays, and strong support from promoters and partners.

The 2025 Formula One season kicks off in Australia on Mar 14-16.
